The dull days of winter

This is Hotel Shoreham, which is located in Detroit Lakes, a town about 40 minutes east of where I live. The pizza at the Hotel Shoreham is fantastic, large and delicious. They also make the best Bloody Marys I’ve ever had. The hotel closes up during the winter, so all of my memories of this place are during the warmer months. It sits right on the lake and you can just chill out and listen to people’s conversations while you relax and let the summer vibes wash over you.

It’s during the months of January and February where you start to miss summers and you wonder if you will ever see sunshine again. I think it’s to be expected; you go through the holidays months in a rushed mode and when they are all said and done, you can finally slow down and breath a little, unbutton your pants. That’s when you realize that the days are short, the nights are long and you wonder what the heck to do with yourself.

I like to view these months as a type of personal growth. Since you are stuck inside all day — and you CAN go outside, just make sure you bundle up! — you might as well learn some new skills while you’re at it!

This winter will be the winter that I blog more, paint more, play that cello that I’ve had in my possession for too many years to count. Oh, and learn to juggle.

Take back the winter, folks, it doesn’t have to be something you dread.
